Short bio
Chiou-lan Chern is a professor of English at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Her research interests include L2 reading instruction and critical thinking, English language policies, and English teacher education.
She has supervised various MOE funded projects and served as the coordinator of English Curriculum Advisory Team in Taiwan.
2030 Bilingual Policy and Its Implementation in Secondary Education
Since December 2018, when Blueprint for Developing Taiwan into a Bilingual Nation by 2030 (National Development Council, 2018) was issued, many education-related polices and mechanisms have been put in place to prepare school teachers to teach in both Chinese and English. This presentation will introduce some of the mechanisms and incentives provided by Ministry of Education to support English and content teachers to take up the new challenge of bilingual education.
